Summary

Reflecting a study conducted in 2020-2021, this article argues that equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) mechanisms have become real instruments of public action (Halpern, Lascoumes, and Le Galès, 2014). The study examines cultural organizations, their efforts, their needs, and the challenges they face in integrating EDI. It is based on 65 semi-structured interviews with artists and people working in cultural organizations in four Canadian cities. The results highlight a need for additional resources and significant structural issues. Despite the normative frameworks in force in Canada and existing resources, the results demonstrate that the inclusion of audiences and the promotion of different art forms remain real challenges for deepening EDI in the field of culture.
