Summary

There are few scientific writings on artists and artistic organizations regarding the alignment of their project management practices and artistic practices. A more in-depth focus on project management in cultural industries is necessary. Several authors come to the conclusion that there is tension in projects within cultural industries. This tension can manifest between two value systems, one related to artistic practices and the second to project management practices. Therefore, the objective of this research is to identify the compromise that allows managing the tension between project management practices and artistic practices in projects originating from cultural industries located outside of metropolitan areas. This tension will be analyzed from the perspective of values, drawing on the theoretical framework of justification by Boltanski and Thévenot (1991; 2006). Case studies will be conducted in various Canadian cities located outside of metropolitan areas, studying projects from cultural industries, and semi-structured interviews will be conducted. This research project contributes to the understanding of cultural industries by focusing on project management and artistic practices within projects. By using the justification theoretical framework, this research will provide a detailed understanding of the formation of the compromise between these practices, making these projects viable.
